You may not think of Melbourne as a snorkelling destination in Australia, but there are actually some great places where you can go snorkelling in Victoria.

Most people go snorkelling in the summer months down at Phillip Island, Mornington Peninsula or Rosebud and there is a number of tours which will take you to the best spots!

Snorkelling in Phillip Island & Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne VIC

A Phillip Island tour will take you snorkelling with beautiful sea dragons in Port Phillip Bay. This tour will be run by an experienced guide who will brief you on how to use the snorkelling equipment and will then take you on a half day snorkelling adventure. This tour is perfect for all ages and experience levels.

The Mornington Peninsula is another great place to spot sea horses, so travel south and depart from the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron where you will be greeted by your guide and will be given a briefing on what to expect in these waters. You will head into the shallows and may be able to catch glimpse of rays, cuttlefish, sea dragons and squid.

Another option to get up close with marine wildlife is to head out to Popes Eye and Chinaman’s Hat. These tours leave from Rosebud West which is home to seals, octopus, sea stars and rays. After being fitted with equipment and instructions on how to use your gear, you will be taken out on a boat for some snorkelling fun. This tour runs between 3-4 hours.

For snorkelling tours, you only need to know how to swim, all other instructions and advice will be given to you, along with all of the snorkelling equipment you will need. Make sure to bring your own bathers, towel and wetsuit (if you wish.) Wetsuits are available for hire for some tours.
