The museum has temporarily closed – however it is worth visiting the ANZ Branch next door at 388 Collins Street Melbourne. Completed by an ANZ predecessor bank, the English, Scottish and Australia Chartered Bank, in May 1887, the ‘Gothic’ Bank was designed by William Wardell. It is an example of secular Gothic, the style is restrained externally, and internally graceful and ornate.

The collection available at the ANZ Bank Museum includes samples of currency from the colonial era, specific notes issued by the bank and even currency used during the birth of Federation. Perhaps the most fascinating thing about this collection is that it showcases some of the equipment used during the iconic Gold Rush era alongside ledgers and accounting machines.
Look out for images from the earliest bank branches and marvel at how much the commerce and banking industry has evolved in Australia. The cool ancient ATM is a great exhibit and is remarkably different from current ATM machine designs.
The ANZ Bank Museum is open on weekdays only (closed public holidays) and entry is free. There are visitor guides and an attendant is at hand to handle any questions about the exhibits.
