Easter Saturday

Easter Saturday is part of the Easter celebrations and will next be observed on Saturday the 31st of March 2018.

Easter Saturday follows Good Friday and occurs as part of a Christian festival which, according to tradition, celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from death. According to the New Testament, this occurred on the third day of his burial in 30AD.

Easter Saturday Date 2018 – Public Holiday, Things To Do & What’s Open

The Easter long weekend in Australia will be celebrated with a number of public holidays starting with Good Friday on the 30th of March, Easter Saturday on the 31st of March, Easter Sunday on the 1st of April and Easter Monday on the 2nd of April. This has the effect of creating a 4 day long weekend for Australians which means that many families use this time to travel and spend time with their family and friends.

Melbournians celebrate the extended Easter Holiday in a traditional way by not eating meat on Good Friday (except fish) and giving chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday.

Even though most stores close on Good Friday, you will find most supermarkets and shopping centres open for business on Easter Saturday. Movie theatres also remain open, as do restaurants, petrol stations and many attractions in Melbourne such as the Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Aquarium, Melbourne Museum, Eureka Skydeck and the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel.

As thousands of people travel during the Easter long weekend, there is a lot of traffic on the road and accommodation books up quickly.
