Flinders Street Station is Australia’s oldest train station and was built in 1854. The current building was completed in 1910 with the upper dome built to house a ballroom.

Today, the station has 12 platforms which service the following Metro lines: Alamein, Belgrave, Craigeburn, Cranbourne, Frankston, Glen Waverley, Hurstbridge, Lilydale, Pakenham, Sandringham, South Morang, Sunbury, Upfield, Werribee and Williamstown.

The station is open 24 hours a day with timetables servicing the outer suburbs of Melbourne frequently during peak periods, with trains every 4-10 minutes on most lines; and in off-peak times every 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Flinders Street station also services customers with toilets, baby change areas, cafés, coffee shops, snack bars and convenience stores. There is also a police station, customer service counter as well as free WiFi which is accessible on the station concourse and from every platform.

Customers can access Flinders Street station only with the purchase of a Myki Card. This is a reusable smart card which you can load with cash to travel on Melbourne’s train, tram and bus networks. You can get a Myki from Flinders Street station ticket machines or from the customer service counter. Your Myki card needs be “touched on” at the machines stationed at the entrance to Flinders Street station in order to access the platforms and “touched off” after exiting the train after alighting at your destination.

You can access Flinders Street station from street level on Flinders Street or Swanston Street or via the Elizabeth Street or Degraves Street subway entrance. Many trams also connect to Flinders Street Station, making it easy to travel within the Melbourne CBD on public transport.
