The Domain Parklands is the collective term for Kings Domain, Government House Reserve, Shrine of Remembrance Reserve and the Royal Botanic Gardens. The parklands stretch from St. Kilda road down to the famous Yarra River.

Features of Kings Domain include the Grotto, which features a fernery and a beautiful Observatory Gate complex that leads down to the Royal Botanic Gardens. There is also a statue of King George V, for whom Kings Domain is named.

Also included within Kings Domain is the Shrine of Remembrance; an important memorial to the soldiers who’ve fallen in Australia’s wars. There is also the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, which is an outdoor concert venue, as well as the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden that recognises the contribution made by Victoria’s female pioneers.

Those looking for historic landmarks within the garden can explore the cottage previously occupied by Governor La Trobe. This ancient cottage features century-old sculptures, designs and architecture.

Those interested in going for a can can enjoy and explore the popular circuit known as ‘the Tan’.

The park was reserved by the Superintendent Charles La Trobe, with his aim to use this site for the future government house.

Take some time to explore each part of this huge parkland as it offers an array of unique and outstanding historic attractions and landmarks.
