Northcote is a multicultural residential suburb located just 6 kilometres north from the Melbourne CBD.

Historically, the land in the suburb was originally occupied by the Wurundjeri people, who were fondly referred to as the Yarra people following the settlement of whites in the region. This settlement in 1839, followed by the process of land allocation gave way to the suburb’s current layout.

Today, the suburb is serviced by a reliable transport system that includes five railway stations on two lines. The South Morang Line for the Croxton, Northcote and Merri stations and the Hurstbridge line for the Westgarth and Fairfield stations. Trams also run through Northcote with routes 11 and 86 trams running frequently.

You will find plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants in Northcote which serve the many young professionals that live here. Northcote Plaza is the main shopping centre here with a Coles, Aldi and Kmart all located here. High Street is also a popular location with many shops and restaurants located along here.

Home to some of Victoria’s most amazing parks, there is no shortage of places to enjoy the outdoors in Northcote. All Nations Park, for instance, lies in proximity to the Northcote Plaza Shopping Centre. Some of the amenities at the park include skating facilities, picnic sites, basketball courts as well as a garden for nature lovers. Other parks include Batman Park and Johnson Park, both which lie close to the bus and train stations.
