Pakenham

Pakenham is one of Melbourne’s popular suburbs located at the periphery of West Gippsland, 56 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD. The suburb’s local government area is managed by Cardinia Shire.

The suburb was named after Sir Edward Pakenham, a Britain native who fought alongside other soldiers during the Peninsula War. The arrival of other white settlers in Britain opened up the region to more development. The first post office in Pakenham was opened in 1859 and remained operational up to 1974. Currently, the present post office was opened in 1888 and is functional to-date.
