Victoria was once a famous destination for gold seekers and explorers. So during the Gold Rush period, many towns in the state were the prime gold mining towns.

The town of Castlemaine was a former gold mining town – located between the two famous towns of Bendigo and Ballarat. Although the town is no longer a famous gold mining destination, it has gained popularity as a thriving arts, cultural and agricultural spot. Gradually, the town is also gaining popularity as a day trip destination from Melbourne.
