Avalon Airport, Melbourne Flights, Parking & Bus Transfers

Avalon Airport is located midway between Melbourne and Geelong, with travellers from both of these cities often coming here to take a flight (rather than the Melbourne Airport).

Avalon Airport also serves as a major regional airport and is the only regional airport near Melbourne that offers connecting flights to several tourist destinations; including the Great Ocean Road. After the acquisition of Avalon airport by Linfox Group, the airport’s aviation operations have significantly improved and is one of the most advanced airports in Victoria.

The Airport has a single runway and a number of popular local airlines use Avalon airport as their primary flying base. Major airlines, including Jetstar, use Avalon airport for most of its regional domestic passenger flights. Qantas has also leased part of the airport to manage its heavy maintenance facility.

This site is also the venue for the Australian International Airshow.

Airport transfers to Avalon airport include both bus and train transfers. To catch a train to Avalon airport, travellers can visit the Southern Cross Station Coach Terminal. A number of airport buses are timed to meet most of the Jetstar and Tiger flights.

Another way to reach this airport is by hiring a taxi or renting a car. If you’re taking a taxi from Melbourne, the approximate taxi fare can be up to $80. Just like the Melbourne International airport, Avalon is also serviced by most of the major car rental companies.
