Mothers Beach

Mothers Beach is one of Melbourne’s most pristine beaches, and is aptly named because it provides a family friendly beach for kids to enjoy.

Just an hour’s drive from Melbourne’s CBD, the beach also has a playground and picnic area located nearby.

Mothers Beach Mornington Peninsula, Swimming, Playground & BBQ’s

On arrival, you are welcomed by tall cypress trees that give way to the white sands against the blue sea waters at Mornington. As one of the safest beaches at Mornington, it is easy to see why this is a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The beach is wide and rock-free, making it perfect for a family day out.

In addition, its sheltered harbour protects the beach from wind and waves creating a delightful sandbar that offers a shallow entry into the waters for the kids. For visiting families, the best time to enjoy activities at the beach is when the tide is high as the waters are shallow.

During this time, parents and guardians can sit back, relax and unwind with a good book or enjoy some alone time sunbathing. Other activities available at Mothers Beach include fishing at the pier, canoeing as well as boat rides. Note that if you are swimming, it is best to avoid the boating section for safety purposes.

There is also a kids playground a short distance from the beach, meaning that your kids remain entertained all day. A cafe right next to the pier serves a delicious fish and chips and other beach amenities include shaded areas, BBQ and picnic facilities as well as parking space.

To access the beach, take a right turn off Nepean Highway into Main Street Mornington. Head out to the end of the street and walk towards the Harbour.
