Sunbury is a suburb located in the north west of Melbourne, just 40 kilometres up the Calder Freeway or Tullamarine Freeway from the CBD.

Sunbury is also world famous due to hosting the first ever “Ashes” series between Australia and England. In 1882, the touring English cricket team came to Rupertswood to play a social game of cricket, winning against a local team. Lady Clarke took the bails, burnt them and presented them to the English captain as a trophy. To this day, the Ashes have become one of the most sought-after trophies in sporting history.
Sunbury was also notable for hosting the Sunbury Pop Festival, which was held annually from 1972 to 1975.
Today, Sunbury is a large and expanding residential community with a number of public schools, medical centres, a post office, supermarkets and a local cinema. There are many cafes and restaurants, as well as takeaway food stores throughout the township. You will find most of the shopping outlets including a Coles, IGA and Target located along Evans and O’Shannassy Streets as well as a Woolworths, Big W and Dan Murphys on Horne Street.
A sporting town, Sunbury has teams in most major sports including AFL, Cricket, Netball, Basketball, Hockey, Swimming and Tennis. There are also local dance groups, horse riding and a golf club. Sunbury is also a wine producing region, with a number of wineries producing world-class red wine.
Sunbury is well serviced on the train network with train services regularly running from the Melbourne CBD to the Sunbury station. Trips take around 45 minutes each way.
