Whittlesea is a town located 40 kilometres north of Melbourne CBD. The town has its local government area in the City of Whittlesea and has expanded slowly over the years become a residential hub.
The town’s first post office was opened in 1853 and was then referred to as Plenty before its name was changed to Whittlesea. This was followed by the opening of a school and railway line. These new developments saw a spike in the economic activity of Whittlesea and steered its growth significantly.

Whittlesea is home to a small commercial hub with the main retail hub located on Church Street. You will find a post office, news agent, banks, laundrette, take away foods, bakery, pharmacy and cafes along here. There are also public primary and secondary schools located here.
You will also find a few markets held in Whittlesea during the month with a market held at the Whittlesea Showgrounds every Monday and the Whittlesea Community Markets held on the third Sunday of each month.
Whittlesea Park also referred to as Funfields, is an amazing water and theme park that is perfect for the whole family. With more than 20 exhilarating waterslides and the biggest Typhoon cannonbowl, there is no shortage of water adventure. Other attractions at the park include the Go Karts, the Toboggan slide, a mini gold centre as well as a number of live shows.
The Old Courthouse is a perfect destination for visitors who would like to immerse themselves in the town’s history and now operates as the town’s tourist information centre. Other attractions in the town include the Yan Yean Reservoir, Bear’s Castle and the Whittlesea dog park.
There is an established transport system that makes it easy to get around Whittlesea. Bus routes 381, 382 and 385 connect the town to different parts of Melbourne. There is no train station in Whittlesea, however, you can catch a train on the Epping Line from Melbourne. The train goes as far as South Morang and from here you can catch bus 562 to Humevale.
