Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Ticket Seating Plan, AFL & Cricket Layout Map
Amongst locals, the Melbourne Cricket Ground is popularly known as the ‘G’ and is one of the most iconic structures in Australia.
Apart from cricket, the MCG also hosts a number of athletic and international sporting events. In 2006, the MCG was the primary stadium of the Commonwealth Games and the MCG was a primary venue for the Olympics in 1956.
A large number of Australian Football League (AFL) games are played here every week and the AFL Grand Final, held in September, draws close to a hundred thousand spectators. Millions more watch the AFL Grand Final from their homes as the game is broadcast live on TV.
The MCG has also played host to many huge concerts from some of the biggest stars on the planet including; Michael Jackson, Madonna and the Rolling Stones. Millions of people pack the MCG each year for a variety of events.
The stadium features a massive seating capacity – more than any other ground in the country; accommodating up to 100,000 spectators. During event days, the stadium also offers food and drink kiosks, where visitors can find an array of light snacks, drinks and a variety of fast food options.
Seating plans will vary based on the type and size of each event, but here are the details of the 2020 AFL Grand Final, along with maps, event schedules and how to get to the MCG.
Hi – I have tickets for the Sat final Pies v GWS
GSS Level 1
Bay M10 Row N
Seats 3 & 4
Are these seats undercover please?
Hi Lesley,
Using the undercover seating guide from the MCG over at http://www.mcg.org.au/_/media/files/mcg/general/undercover-seating.pdf?la=en, it appears that the “drip line” is at row Y.
So while from row Y back to LL is undercover, it appears that your seats in row N will be exposed to rain.
Right now there is a 80% chance it will rain Saturday, but according to Google, this may occur overnight or around lunch. None the less, take precautions and check the forecast closer to the day.
Thank you and enjoy the game!
Michael
Hi, could you please tell me if seats for the Bon Jovi concert are numbered from left to right or vice versa? For example, would seat number 1 in section A7 be closest to section A6 or A8?
Hi Denise,
I can see why there is confusion – none of the seating plans go as far as mentioning where the seat numbers are in terms of the row.
I tried booking through many different websites, and still couldn’t find the information. If i was to guess, i would say that the seating numbers would run left to right facing the stage, where seat 1 would be next to A8.
Thanks
Michael
Is row F, level 4 of Olympic stand under cover
Hi Wayne,
Looking at the MCG Undercover Seating List over at http://www.mcg.org.au/_/media/files/mcg/general/undercover-seating.pdf?la=en, all of level 4 of the Olympic stand appears to be undercover.
Thanks
Michael
Hi have tickets to richmond and collingwood game. Says general admission GA4 GA98 seats 45 and 46. does this just mean entry for general admission and where will we be able to sit. thanks
Hi Sue,
Having looked into this, it does appear that a lot of people ask the same question regarding general admission seating at the MCG.
As the other people have suggested for other games, if you check out the MCG website in the days before the event, there will be more information about what areas have been allocated for general admission in the Great Southern, Ponsford & Olympic stands.
The page to visit will be http://www.mcg.org.au/whats-on/events-calendar/2018/july/richmond-v-collingwood-july-28.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Michael
Hi, I have booked tickets to the Bon Jovi Concert on 1st December, in M6 Row DD seats 5 and 6. Does Row CC mean 4 rows from the front, or 30 rows from the front?
Hi Jake,
As noted in the previous comments on our page, all seating bays at the MCG begin with Row A closest to the fence and continue back to Row Z, before reverting to Row AA, BB, CC and so on. Therefore you will be 30 rows from the front.
Regards,
Jess
N42 Row h is that close to the edge or far back ?
Hi Luke,
As noted in the previous comments on our page, all seating bays at the MCG begin with Row A closest to the fence and continue back to Row Z, before reverting to Row AA, BB, CC and so on. Therefore you will be 8 rows from the front.
Regards,
Jess
We have secured seats at the MCG which are in section M12, row JJ seats 17 & 18 and were wondering if they would be undercover or will we need to bring rainwear with us?
Hi Jan,
Definitely bring rain wear. There are no “undercover” seats at the MCG, as the roof level is high and there isn’t much cover, particularly if there are high winds and rain, everyone will get wet.
Best regards,
Jess
Wondering if you can assist with seat question..m3 AA ..where are they and is there a aisle between A and AA..ty
Hi Wayne,
All seating bays at the MCG begin with Row A closest to the fence and continue back to Row Z, before reverting to Row AA, BB, CC and so on. There is no aisle between A and AA, the seats run sequentially with no gap.
Best regards,
Jess
Hi,
Planning to come over from NZ for the Boxing day test (been on my bucket list for 45 years). Happy to pay for Platinum seats but can you recommend which of these platinum areas is best for watching test cricket?
Hi Graham,
In my view, sitting side on to the wicket is the better view, as opposed to looking straight down the pitch. So I would pick the Great Southern Stand at the Yarra Park end, or the Ponsford Stand.
Have a great time at the Boxing Day Test!
Jess
we are seated in level1 rowAA will we have a lot of steps to climb?
Hi Maryanne,
If you are referring to the ground level, then there will be approximately 30 stairs down do your seats. You will then need to walk back up those stairs to get out of the MCG. The stairs are low and long, so there is plenty of space to place your feet if you have trouble balancing. Ask for assistance from the ground crew if you need help getting to your seat.
Best regards,
Jess
which seats are undercover at the mcg
Hi Annie,
This is a very broad question. All seating bays at the MCG begin with Row A closest to the fence and continue back to Row Z, before reverting to Row AA, BB, CC and so on. Here is a table with the drip lines for each section (will download as a PDF).
Best regards,
Jess

I’m am sitting in Q55 for the Grand Final this weekend. Do you know if I can walk through to M5 once inside to see my friends at half time etc?
Hi Sandy,
Yes, during regular games you can walk around from the Olympic Stand through to the Southern Stand without any issues. Not sure if this is still the case for the Grand Final. Make your way to the ground level and see if you can meet your friend in the middle.
Best regards,
Jess
Hi there.
I have tickets on Level 4 Q3 row Z seat3 and seat4.
Can you tell me what the view would be like from here?
Thanks
Hi Spiro,
You are right up the top of the Southern Stand, so your view will be pretty far away. However, your seats will be at the Punt Road end, near the 50 metre line, so you should be able to see some action around the goals.
Have a great time at the Grand Final!
Jess
Do the rows only go up to z or double zz?
Thanks
Hi,
Having a look at the MCG seating plan, it’s stated that “All seating bays at the MCG begin with Row A closest to the fence and continue back to Row Z, before reverting to Row AA, BB, CC and so on.”
I hope this helps.
Thanks
Michael
Hi I’m in Q7 AA seats 12 and 13 what sort of view am I in for
Hi Cyril,
You are in the Southern Stand on the top level, about 30 rows back. You will be pretty far away from the action, however will have a great view of the Punt Road end goals, as you will be around the 50 metre line.
Have a great time at the AFL Grand Final!
Jess

Hi Brenton,
It sounds like you are in the Southern Stand, ground level, general admission (standing). I would contact the ticket seller to confirm, as I’m not sure whether you have one or two tickets on the information provided.

My tickets are at SM52 A6-8 but they are not designated on the seating plan. I am concerned that they might be standing room. Can you advise me if they are seats & where they are located?
Hi John,
Looks like you are in the Olympic Stand, ground level. Row A would be close to the front, so sounds like you might have some great tickets for the AFL Grand Final! Contact the ticket seller to confirm.
