The Old Treasury Building is one of the finest museums in Melbourne, built back in 1862. This museum has a social history section and vast collections of items and artifacts. In addition, the museum also boasts special exhibits for Indigenous culture and society.

Located near the Old Treasury Building, you’ll find the famous Royal Botanical Gardens, Old Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Museum.

The Melbourne Museum is another popular attraction just outside the city, with permanent exhibitions on Aboriginal culture – predominantly focused on local Koorie culture in Bunjilaka. Visit the onsite Aboriginal Cultural Centre to learn more – with some artifacts dating back to the 1800s.

If you’re interested in learning more about Chinese history and heritage, then visit the historic Chinese Museum in the city. This museum offers some excellent stories and relics about the Chinese culture, history and heritage in Australia. There is even a special exhibition that explains more about Chinese immigration to Australia.

The Islamic Museum of Australia is another popular museum in town, where guests can learn more about the rich Islamic artistic heritage and culture, and at the same time explore the works of several top Islamic artists.
