Even though the park was opened in 1976, locals say that the park has been in existence since the early 18th century – early European settlers actually built this beautiful park.

Originally, this park space was used for farming, with settlers naming this park after a local word Brimbank – which originates from a farm watering practice. Back then, farmers highly benefited by planting seedlings here, since the rich soil adjoins the river flats. Gradually, this extensive land became a public park.

Later on, the Melbourne City Council revamped the area and opened it to the public as a recreational area. Today, the park offers a wide array of outdoor activities for adults and kids alike. Visitors often come here for a scenic walk, fishing, bird watching and canoeing.

This extensive parkland features flourishing bushland and is home to abundant wildlife. Many visitors often notice intriguing brush-tail and ring-tail possums. Furthermore, the park is also popular for its wide array of water-bird species; including an assortment of Flame Robins, parrots, Blue wrens and Thornbills.
