Scots Church

The Scots Church is home to a diverse and vibrant church community that comes together for worship each week.

As the first Presbyterian Church to be constructed in Victoria, the church holds a special place in the city and has often been regarded as an iconic landmark in Melbourne for well over a century.

The church building has a modest interior with a finish that features fine wood fittings and stained glass windows. The church spire is 64 meters high and, for many years, marked the highest point in the city. For a building that was constructed in 1874, its remarkable Gothic style is worth highlighting as this was not the norm when building Presbyterian church buildings around this time.

If you plan on visiting, note that Scots Church holds a traditional service each Sunday, and you can be sure to get a warm welcome. Note that the church remains open from Monday to Friday (11am to 2pm).

Weddings are often held at Scots Church, however please note that alcohol is not permitted on the premises. The cost of hosting a wedding here is around $1,500 which includes church hire, the Minister, a building officer, a security guard, the organist, flowers up to the value of $70 and pre-marriage classes. You are permitted to marry at Scots Church if you are not a Presbyterian and you are permitted to use your own minister.

Look out for the free music concerts held at the church throughout the year and make plans to attend one. To get a firsthand experience of the warmth of the Scots Church congregation, make your way to the North West corner of Russell and Collins Street. There are numerous car parks located around the church with flat weekend rates.
