St Kilda Botanic Gardens

The historic St Kilda Botanic Gardens date back to 1859 and is one of the city’s best maintained botanic gardens. With more than 800 trees, shrubs and flowering plants, this lush and leafy parkland boasts a serene and scenic setting for visitors to indulge in.

After many changes and restorations, the beautiful gardens now include a nursery, gazebo, rainforest conservatory, glasshouses, an ornamental pond and an extensive flower bed.

Melbournians often come to this elegant green oasis for a bit of weekend fun and relaxation. This botanical garden also offers an exclusive insight to the city’s cultural and heritage significance.

On its 150th anniversary, the City of Port Phillip provided funds for redesigning and reconstructing the garden. During this phase, four distinctive new gates were installed; designed by David Wood, a famous blacksmith of the city.

The park features the Alister Clark Memorial Rose Garden; featuring a wide selection of native roses. Adjoining the sub-tropical rainforest conservatory, you’ll find the ornamental pond that was refurbished and repaired – featuring an exquisite fountain known as the “Rain Man Fountain”.
