Eltham

Eltham is a residential suburb located just 20 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, with its local government area managed by the Shire of Nillumbik.

Eltham stands out as being a well-developed town whilst still retaining its green surrounds with tree-lined streets and a quiet country feel.

Eltham is a popular location for artists in Victoria as there are many fine art galleries located here. Amongst the most well known are the Eltham South Fine Art Studios and Gallery, Montsalvat and the Nyora Studio Gallery.

Eltham is heaven for lovers of great food and wine, especially since the iconic Yarra Valley wine region is only a short drive away. Visit Volumes for your favourite brew, or drop by Ginger Garlic for the quintessential spicy culinary experience. Get your fast food fix at The Burger Lounge or Nando’s Pizza.

Enjoy shopping at the Eltham Farmers Market which runs on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from 9am-1pm. Here you will be able to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, condiments, pasta, olive oil, honey, cheese, eggs, meat, poultry, fish, bread, wine and plants.

Other attractions include Garden Hill and the war memorial tower as well as the Diamond Valley Railway. A tour of Eltham is incomplete without visiting the wooden railway trestle bridge whose history can be traced back to 1902.

Eltham is well serviced by the public transport system via trains on the Hurstbridge Line which stop at Eltham Train Station. There is only one hotel located in town, but you can click the link below to explore the range of hotel options both in Eltham and the surrounding suburbs.
