Newport is a residential suburb located just 7 kilometres south-west from the Melbourne CBD. Its local government area managed by the City of Hobsons Bay.

The construction of the Newport Railway Workshops was integral to the development of the region as was the Newport Power Station, whose structure features the region’s tallest towers.

Today, Newport is home to diverse multiculturalism with many Italian and Asian first and second generation immigrants living here. Easily accessed via the Westgate Freeway, Newport is just 10 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, making it a popular place to live.

One of the best features of Newport is the Newport Lakes Reserve. Here, you will find a number of walking tracks which are popular for walkers and runners. There is also a picnic area with free electric barbecues and shelters as well as toilets and drinking taps.

Newport also has an IGA Supermarket, cafes, restaurants, a post office, library, news agency, 7/11 as well as plenty of retail stores. There are also primary and secondary schools here as well as churches and a mosque.

Each July, Newport plays host to the Newport Folk Festival which is a music festival where you can hear local artists play amazing music. Tickets can be purchased on the day from the venue.

Newport has a reliable public transport system that includes train services on the Werribee and Williamstown train lines as well as bus services on routes 432, 471, 472 and 944.
