In the lead-up to the “race that stops the nation”, the City of Melbourne gets in on the festivities each year by hosting the Melbourne Cup Parade.
This year, the procession will start on the corner of Swanston and Bourke Streets at 12pm (noon) and will walk down Swanston Street all the way down to Federation Square.

This fun event is totally FREE and tens of thousands of people come along to see the horses, jockeys and trainers who will compete in the most famous race in Australia, the Melbourne Cup.
The Melbourne Cup holds a special place in every Victorian’s heart, so much so that Melbourne Cup Day has been declared a public holiday! As the biggest event of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, the Melbourne Cup race is held on the first Tuesday of every November.
So come along and witness the thoroughbreds as they march through the CBD and cheer on your favourite!
The easiest way to get to the parade is by taking public transport. Catch a train to Flinders Street Station and walk up Swanston Street and find a place to settle in and watch the parade.
