Grainger Museum

Grainger Museum is one of the city’s most fascinating museums and attractions and was designed to celebrate the life of Percy Grainger.

Located at Melbourne University in Parkville and celebrates this Australian composer, musical arranger and pianist and has plenty of exhibitions on display.

The museum was officially opened in 1938 and has since attracted many art lovers, both local and international. Touring the museum gives visitors a chance to see original manuscripts, musical instruments, photos and artworks from Grainger’s lifetime. In addition to this, visitors also get to see books and other items of personal nature that date back to the era in which he, and other contemporaries, lived.

Of the 100,000 items present at Grainger Museum, only a few are put on display. Researchers may access the bulk of these items with prior booking. You may also buy Grainger souvenirs when you visit the shop onsite, including cards and books.

Admission to the museum is free, but there are also guided tours and talks available for a fee. You can get to the museum via tram up Royal Parade (#19 tram) alight at stop 11. If driving, there is limited metered parking along Royal Parade.
