CERES Community Environment Park

CERES Community Environment Park is an urban environmental centre and food farm tucked away in Brunswick East, just 4kms from the Melbourne CBD.

The centre’s name in full is Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies (CERES, pronounced the same way as ‘series’).The centre sits on an expansive 10-acre piece of land along Merri Creek and attracts close to half a million visitors annually.

CERES Community Environment Park & Nursery, Brunswick Melbourne

What was once an industrial wasteland and dumpsite has since grown to be one of the most sustainable locations in Melbourne. CERES was established in 1982 and today, the centre has changed the city’s face with its natural beauty and diverse community around. By organising a wide array of community projects, training programs and on-site education, the centre is able to impact and teach the community on the need to conserve the environment for a sustainable future.

The Flea Market here runs every Saturday from 9am-2pm in the market space next to the Organic Grocery. You will find heaps of handmade, second-hand and vintage goods here.

Some of the amenities present at CERES include the Merri Table that serves only organic food, a community kitchen as well as grounds for hire. Visit the nursery section for expert advice, or opt to get your week’s supply of fresh produce or environmentally safe cleaning products from the CERES grocery before exploring the delightful eco-house.

The park is open during daylight hours and entry is free. Dogs are permitted within the park, but must remain leashed at all times. Please leave the plastic bags at home and only bring recyclable bags.
