Berwick

Berwick is a residential suburb located 40kms south-east from Melbourne and is close to the suburbs of Beaconsfield and Narre Warren.

The town’s history dates back to 1854 when development began with the construction of a hotel, post office and related businesses. During this period, the town was a thriving agricultural and pastoral centre too which saw the town eventually become one of Melbourne’s suburbs.

Today, Berwick is a popular residential town with a number of convenient amenities. Wilson Botanic Park is a must-visit for anyone touring the town. The former quarry has since been developed to create an enchanting garden teeming with birdlife, a couple of lakes and scenic picnic sites. Other key attractions in Berwick include the recreation reserve at Harkaway as well as the iconic Berwick Inn and Sweeney Reserve.

Berwick also houses a TAFE and a University. There are also a number of primary and secondary schools located here, both public and private. You will also find Casey Hospital here.

For shopping, head to the main shopping precinct in town which is located on the old Princes Highway (the main street of Berwick village). You will find an Aldi supermarket, Coles and Woolworths Supermarkets all within the township. For other retail needs, head to Westfield Fountain Gate, which is located just outside the suburb limits in the neighbouring town of Fountain Gate. Here, there are large supermarkets, retail stores and specialty shops.

Berwick is well serviced by public transport with the Berwick Train Station serviced by the Pakenham line. Busses also service the area, but it is important to note that the town is largely car-dependent as transport infrastructure is fragmented in parts of the town.
