Preston

Preston is a residential suburb located just 9 kilometres north from the Melbourne CBD with its local government area managed by the City of Darebin.

Established in the early 1830s, today Preston is a bustling residential suburb with a large shopping mall, cinema, markets and plenty of amenities for residents.

Preston might be best known as the home of the Preston Market, a massive fresh food market located on Cramer Street. At this market, you will find fruit, vegetables, groceries, fresh meat, seafood, fashion and homewares. You can also purchase a hot meal from any of the food stalls located here, or just relax with a coffee and cake. The market is open on Wednesday and Saturdays from 8am – 3pm and on Thursday and Friday from 8am 6pm. The market is closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Preston is also home to the massive Northland Shopping Centre. Here you will find many popular retail stores including Kmart, Toys R Us, Myer, Coles, Woolworths and Target. The shopping complex also offers a mix of designer stores, fashion shops and boutiques. The venue is also home to a 15 Cinema Megaplex, where visitors can enjoy the latest movie releases.

Preston is primarily a residential suburb with heaps of restaurants and cafes as well as doctors, dentists, a post office, library, public schools and sporting facilities.

Preston is well serviced by public transport with 2 train stations located within its precincts. Simply catch a train on the South Morang train line and alight at either Bell or Preston Railway Stations. Tram routes 11, 86 and 112 will also take you through Preston with some travelling up Plenty Road.
