Warrandyte’s history goes back in time to the first discovery of gold in the region in 1851. However, during this period minimal mining was done. It was not until the famous gold rush era that extensive gold mining was carried out which this led to the area’s popularity.

Warrandyte is located on the banks of the Yarra River and, considering the gold deposits in the area, it is easy to understand why there are dozens of mineshafts and tunnels scattered across the suburb. These make for an exciting way to explore some of the region’s historic landmarks.

In addition to these attractions, Warrandyte is also home to a number of facilities that cater to the residents including a large community centre, two recreational ovals for football and cricket as well as tennis courts and a skate park. Warrandyte also has an IGA Supermarket, post office, newsagent, bakery and pharmacy as well as Goldfields Plaza, the suburbs main shopping precinct.

Warrandyte is also popular for the annual Warrandyte Festival. Come on up to Warrandyte to celebrate this wonderful festival filled with food, drinks, live music, a parade as well as a film festival in March each year.

Warrandyte is connected to the Melbourne CBD by the number 906 bus. There is no train station here, however many people drive their car to Ringwood Station and catch a train from there.
