Bundoora

Bundoora is a residential suburb in Melbourne, located 16 kilometres away from the Melbourne CBD and is commonly reached via the Western / Metropolitan Ring Road.

The town’s name is a derivative of ‘Kelbundoora’, a term coined by tribesmen from the Aboriginal Wurundjeri community in the 19th century.

Bundoora is most notable for housing the large La Trobe University and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Campuses here. The La Trobe University campus is the flagship university for La Trobe and offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering Arts, Social Sciences and Commerce (ASSC) (which includes Business, Education & Law) and Science, Health and Engineering (SHE) (which includes Medicine, Nursing, Maths and Science). The RMIT campus offers aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, medical sciences and social sciences.

Plenty Road is the main thoroughfare through the suburb of Bundoora. Off this road, you will find three large golf courses available for public use as well as plenty of services. As a popular residential suburb, Bundoora has many amenities here including supermarkets, restaurants, doctors, dentists, private hospitals, a post office and a library and much more.

The closest large shopping mall is Northland which is located 10 minutes south of Bundoora in the suburb of Preston. Northland has a Hoyts Cinema as well as supermarkets, a Myer department store and over 100 specialty stores.

Bundoora is serviced by a great transport network. You can get to Bundoora via a train on the Hurstbridge Line and alight at Macleod or Watsonia stations. You can also take a tram on route #86 to the Watsonia Railway Station and many public buses are available to and from the Universities.
